by Jan Jones, RN, CEO, Alleviate Care
I’ve always believed hospice is about embracing people in their final days with love, support, and dignity—a “warm hug” that provides peace to patients and their families.
When delivered effectively, hospice care can be a beautiful experience, offering people comfort and connection during a vulnerable time. The reality, however, often falls short of this. I’ve seen firsthand how significant gaps in quality and integrity have brought about a pressing need for change in an industry in which many services are unfortunately inefficient or disreputable.
We started Alleviate Care because we understand these concerns and are committed to providing a higher standard of hospice services. Together, we’re focused on compassionate and personalized care, ensuring that end-of-life journeys are as comfortable and dignified as possible.
The Need for Change in Hospice
While the core mission of hospice care is to provide compassionate support to patients in their final days, the current standards of care often fall short.
Patients and families frequently encounter impersonal or unprofessional interactions, missed opportunities for meaningful connection, and a general lack of consistency in the care they receive. This disconnect between the mission of hospice and its quality of care can lead to frustration, disappointment, and a diminished experience during some of life's most important moments.
What's more, traditional hospice models often burden caregivers with administrative tasks, pulling them away from the meaningful time they could be spending with patients. Administrative burdens can quickly lead to poor quality of care and caregiver burnout. Studies reflect what I’ve experienced: Hospice workers are seeking more efficiency and tools that allow them to focus on patient care. I’ve worked in hospice for 36 years, so I understand that choosing a career as a hospice caregiver comes from a deep calling to support people during their final days. Meaningful relationships are at the heart of hospice, and the moments spent with patients are profoundly impactful.
Compassionate, Modern Care: Our Unique Approach
Our mission is simple: To alleviate the burdens felt by patients, families, and caregivers. Our model eliminates the inefficiencies that diminish care quality and experience and replaces them with thoughtful, human-centered support that makes a real difference when it matters most.
Alleviate provides comprehensive hospice services, including pain management, symptom control, emotional and spiritual support, and bereavement care. We use modern tools to make care professional and patient-centered, including advanced pain management techniques, telehealth services for remote check-ins, and communication tools that connect families with the care team. We treat every patient and family member with the warmth and compassion that they deserve and enable them to connect during this important time without extra worry or stress.
Trust and a commitment to open communication are at the heart of our approach. Clear communication with our patients and create a supportive environment to ask questions and express concerns. We foster genuine relationships with families and referring healthcare providers, ensuring every interaction is marked by empathy, clinical excellence, and open communication. Our dedicated team of doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers works closely with families to create personalized care plans that honor each patient’s unique needs and wishes. We are more than caregivers; we are partners committed to delivering exceptional care.
At the end of every day, we want to know that our patients are receiving the care we would want our own family members to receive. Our team works tirelessly to ensure that each patient’s final days are filled with dignity, comfort, and connection.
